For those who are not accustomed to low temperatures or who have been intended by nature to live under the tall rays of the sun, there is no enemy more dreadful than the cold. Not only does it paralyse the body, burning up every energy in the exhausting struggle to keep warm, but it also seizes up, stupefies the mind. It becomes impossible to relax, to think –or in the full meaning of the word– to live.
