SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL, SPEAK NO EVIL

While the French make fun of the US army's "Dont ask, don't tell" policy, that is basically the prevailing attitude among the French middle class. For all our self-righteous claims of open-mindedness, overt, unapologetic homosexuality is viewed much along the same lines as farting in public – distasteful, and best avoided or ignored. Hence, inter alia, the vicious opposition to the French civil partnership scheme, or PACS, and to same-sex parenting.
